Upper Negro Island is a 4.5‑acre private island located in Lords Cove on the Bagaduce River, positioned at the north end of Castine Harbor between North Castine and Brooksville. Just a 10‑minute boat ride from Castine, the island offers a quiet off‑grid setting with shoreline views, wildlife activity, and proximity to one of Maine’s most historic coastal towns.
The Property
UNI is a wooded island with two small cabins and a freestanding bedroom cabin. The property reflects the character of a traditional Maine camp, used seasonally for decades by previous owners. The island includes space and an existing plan for well and septic installation. Multiple granite ledge locations are suitable for a dock. The neighboring island is held in conservation by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust.
The Land and Water
The island includes approximately 1,600 feet of shorefront and sits on a bank roughly 20 feet above the water. The shoreline features morning and pebble beaches for easy access. Views extend down Castine Harbor toward Islesboro and the Camden Hills, and upriver along the Bagaduce. The island’s coves and vantage points provide opportunities to observe seals, waterfowl, and passing boats. Recreational options include swimming, paddling, and exploring the Bagaduce River toward Squiggly Waters and Reversing Falls.
Access and Utilities
Access is available from two municipal piers and a boat landing in Castine Harbor, located about one mile away. The island is off‑grid.
