Kalgin Island is situated 30 km off shore from Kenai, Alaska, a world class salmon fishing destination. The island is reached by plane or boat. A 20-minute flight lands you right on the beach in front of the island's lodge. You suddenly find yourself a world away from civilization.

This 30,000-acre island was first used in 1920 as a fox farm and later in the 50's by salmon fishers. Now there are a dozen summer cabins on the island used during the summer fishing season. 90% of the island is owned by the state of Alaska and is not for sale.

The lodge sits on 5 acres of beachfront property which is grandfathered into a "critical wildlife habitat" area and consequently you will never have neighbors. The closest private property is 2 miles away.

The island has long sandy beaches, a bird sanctuary, scenic hiking trails, and a managerie of wildlife including moose, fox, beaver, bald eagles, owls, cranes, geese, ducks, seals, and sea birds. More importantly there are no bears, roads, cars, stores, or crowds.

THE LODGE:

This home is a unique sanctuary on a wilderness island that can be used as a year-round home, a vacation home, or a wilderness hunting and fishing lodge business.

It is a two-story home built in 1979 from local stone and logs. It is a masterpiece of artistic stonework that has been completely upgraded to provide all the comforts of home on a remote wilderness island. This 280 m² (2600 sq. ft.) 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom eco-lodge sleeps 6 people comfortably. It is fully furnished and year-round habitable. It's the only building on the island with running water, hot showers, flush toilets, electricity, a well, septic system, propane water heater, and solar electric system with lithium batteries and diesel backup.
