Located on the south end of Eagle Lake, this private island offers untouched mixed forest, exceptional sunset views, and complete privacy with no cottages in sight. The setting includes at least two potential building sites suitable for additional accommodation or rental use, creating flexibility for future planning while preserving the islandβs natural character.
The Property
The centerpiece of the island is a 125βyearβold log home, relocated and restored with care and positioned in the southwest corner to capture evening light. The 1,188 sq ft structure features a 48βft covered porch facing the lake, fully insulated white pine log construction (12 inches thick), and cathedral ceilings in the kitchen, sunroom, and upstairs bedroom. Wide plank pine floors and doubleβglazed doors and windows appear throughout. The openβplan living and dining area is anchored by a traditional stone fireplace. Additional heating elements include a Vermont woodstove in the sunroom and a woodβburning cookstove in the kitchen. Custom pine furniture and cherrywoodβtopped kitchen cabinets complement the homeβs craftsmanship. A solar system provides lighting and music, while hot and cold water are supplied by a 400βgallon water tower fed from the lake. The fridge and oven run on propane. The cottage is wired for highβspeed internet via a wideβarea WiβFi tower across the lake and is connected to Bell through an underwater phone cable. Mainland power can be added through underwater cables serving shoreline properties opposite the boathouse.
Land and Water
The island features mixed forest, natural shoreline, and two identified building sites. A boathouse sits in a southβfacing cove with a path and deck leading to the cottage. Included equipment consists of a 16' wideβbody aluminum workboat (30 hp), a 14' aluminum boat (6 hp), a wood/canvas canoe, a Honda generator, two pumps, two chainsaws, and assorted tools.
Access and Utilities
Eagle Lake is located 14 km west of South River, Ontario, approximately three hours north of Toronto via Highways 400 and 11. The lake is divided northβsouth by a causeway with a marina, boat ramp, and yearβround country store. The island lies opposite Mikisew Provincial Park, near several uninhabited islands and largely undeveloped shoreline. Groomed snowmobile trails run adjacent to the islandβs north tip and connect to the provincial trail network.
The Lifestyle
The island supports a quiet, natureβfocused lifestyle with opportunities for boating, paddling, fishing, and exploring the surrounding forest and shoreline. Its restored historic cottage, offβgrid systems, and private setting create a retreat suited for seasonal living or expanded multiβbuilding use. Proximity to South River and regional amenities ensures convenience while maintaining the seclusion of a true northern Ontario island property.
