Greer Island

Greer Island is a 5 acre island just off the eastern shore of Vinalhaven Island, located in Maine's mid-coast region and recently cited by the New York Times as "A Hard-Working Island With a Leisure Class" (6/16/06).

The island offers views of the open bay to one side and a protected cove on the other. There are meadows and stands of spruce and balsam, as well as wild strawberries and roses.

With a variance, resource protection zoning allows a 600 square foot structure. An existing building at the shore could be restored to provide studio or guest space. At low tide, the island is connected to Vinalhaven's sand beach by a sandbar. Carver's Harbor, with its ferry to the mainland, is just around the corner from Greer. The perfect place to enjoy the light-year stars...
