It's not often that private island dwellers get to also enjoy the benefits of living within city limits—much less within the city limits of an adorable Florida beach town full of unique history and loaded with great attractions. Located just across the Carrabelle River from downtown Carrabelle (known as the Florida Panhandle's Gateway to the Gulf), this 34-acre parcel on Timber Island is both conveniently close to town and perfectly situated for taking in the beauty of the surrounding waterfront.

With just about 2,500 people, Carrabelle is loaded with small town charm, but it's also blessed with a surprising number of interesting attractions. It's famously home to the world's smallest police station (located inside a phone booth), which has been featured on The Today Show, The Tonight Show, and everything in between. The celebrated Crooked River Lighthouse was first lit in 1895, and it guided Panhandle mariners for a century before it was restored and opened to the public more than a decade ago—climbing its 128 stairs for a fantastic view of Carrabelle and the coast is a local must-do. The Camp Gordon Johnston Museum offers a fascinating look at the amphibious soldiers who trained in Carrabelle and Franklin County, Florida during World War II. And the Carrabelle History Museum covers all aspects of the town's long heritage, dating back more than 2,000 years to the indigenous Apalachee people.

The waters off Timber Island are of course full of possibilities too, including boating and fishing, not to mention swimming, snorkeling and paddling at nearby Carrabelle Beach. Beautiful wildlife is abundant all around, including deer and foxes on land, dolphins off shore, and blue herons and pelicans overhead.

And when you're ready to eat, great restaurants abound, especially dedicated to the kind of fresh seafood that can only be had in a perfect little seaside town like Carrabelle.
